Heavy Rigid Automatic Vehicle

Licence Category:

Any rigid vehicle with 3 or more axles, including trucks and buses, greater than 8 tonnes

Course details:

  • This is a one-day course conducted from our Ravenhall site
  • One-on-one training
  • Automatic transmission
  • Students who already hold a manual car licence who complete their course in an Automatic gearbox will be issued with a B condition on their licence. This will allow the student to drive both automatic and synchromesh gearboxes

Course eligibility/entry requirements:

  • Australian car licence over 24 months old
  • Successful completion of a language, literacy and numeracy test.
  • If you take any prescribed medication you are required to complete a medical form from VicRoads. This must be filled out by your treating doctor and taken to VicRoads directly for a clearance. A booking cannot be made until you receive clearance with VicRoads.
  • You will be required to pass a standard eyesight test at our Ravenhall office as per VicRoads requirement, if you have pre-existing vision defects you will be required to complete a VicRoads Eyesight Report.

Testing:

On completion of their training students sit for their licence test. Barkly Driving School will issue successful applicants with a Certificate of Competence, the applicant must present this certificate to a VicRoads office to have their licence endorsed.

Our Heavy Rigid course is broken down into three components:

  1. Theory test based on the Victorian Bus and Truck Handbook
  2. On-road driving test
  3. Off-road driving test

What you need to study:

Before commencement of a Light Rigid/Medium Rigid/Heavy Rigid course, each applicant must study the Victorian Bus & Truck Handbook. VicRoads theory testing is based off this handbook.

What you need to bring:

  • Australian drivers licence
  • Second form of ID (Medicare or bankcard)
  • Reading/driving glasses if required
  • Sunglasses and a bottle of water are suggested but not required

What to wear:

  • Comfortable clothing
  • Covered shoes (no thongs/sandals/open toed shoes are allowed; If you do arrive for your course wearing either of these, you will be sent home to retrieve suitable footwear and the time taken to do so will be deducted from your course hours)
  • Reading/driving/sunglasses if required
